Getting a little further in... Intake coming together which is looking quite good.

Started on the inter-cooler hoses which will connect to the heat exchange radiator and Pump.

Radiators are taking shape.

Finally into the messy bit...

Taking some time due to work commitments but getting there slowly.

Hi all,

Its been awhile since last posting, as I find this forum can have a few people who can get a bit heated, but for those that are interested I have a bit of an update on the LSA project!

99% completed with a few body knick-knacks to complete, but this is one seriously fun car!

Sorry to hear that our solicited comments are annoying to you. I for one have a very open mind regarding inputs from my collogues here. At no time have I had anything but praise for all and any comments and suggestions that I have received, and they have all served me well. Perhaps a more accommodating forum would be to your liking. Yeah well, Craig, ya just can't please some people no matter what you do, and I've learned to just let them stew in their own bad humor. As they say, "What goes around comes around."

I have just today driven Nix 170 miles round trip on a Beeeautiful Spring day, and she made an Astonishingly good 18.7 miles per gallon at 75-80mph most of the time. But some people would ask what's my diff ratio, what's my tire size, what's the discrepancy in odometer miles and "Real" miles and I'm SO OVER IT!

I say to you and anyone else who might care, DRIVE THE WHEELS OFF AND ENJOY IT WHILE IT LASTS!!

And, Congratulations on all your successful hard work.

Hi Darren

430 RWHP and 482 RWTQ (ft⋅lbf) @ 6100 rpm

355 RWTQ @ 2200 rpm

Approx 650/650 at the flywheel.

It was more of a tuning tool to get the best balanced tune from the ECM.

Running 12 psi boost so sorted of expected these numbers. The low down torque is breathtaking.

Would love a video of the driving experience! Any issues or failures once the swap was completed? Has the rear end or body folded up yet? I'm in the midst of a installing a similar powerplant.

Hi there NSO,

I will be getting some videos up when I get the chance.

No failures at all, but there are some items that must be added when power levels like this are installed.
  • Recomend to rebuild your powerlok rear end to handle the fresh power
  • Rear trailing arm racing bushes should be used (Red poly bushes)
  • Decent shocks, such as Koni performance shocks
  • Diff lock plate (custom built) is critical for the success. (Without the plate, you will jam the driveshaft up into the tunnel on your first launch)
  • If running factory 6 inch wheels, we can only get 225mm wide tyres on these, and the Hercules HP4000 give incredible dry road traction (Way better than I imagined)
So far so good on the chassis with no issues, but if you go for a wider tyre and start drag racing you may create more stresses than I am creating.

My car is a street car, NOT a drag car. (This will make a difference)

If you need drawings for the diff plate design PM me.

Hi Craig,

I don't plan on drag racing my car as there's no sense in shocking the rear end like that.

-My car was a factory open diff, so I'll most likely install a Detroit carrier when I drop the cage for service.

If you have a link to the poly bushes and the print for the diff plate I'd really appreciate it. I am assuming the latter reinforces the mounting of the diff relative to the cage to prevent any movement when torque is applied.

Nsogiba, I found this guy on YouTube, he lists all the part numbers of what you need to redo the diff, bearings, seals etc, and recommends the auburn carrier as so few carry the 17 or 19 spline( or whatever is is we have)

Hi all,

Here is a video of the car in operation and a bit of an overview of the process.

Sorry about the wind and Im not the best at making videos!

The car is not 100% finished and hasnt actually had a clean or proper valet for about 15 years and I will get that done a bit later on.

Probabaly best on good speakers or phones...

The sound, the look, not to mention the Color, (my second favorite right after Black.)
And I Especially like the modification you have done to the hood/bonnet! Very well done! Looks like it came out of the factory like that.

Its been a long 2.5 years, but has been a great adventure, now I just need to get the last bits tidied up.

The guy who did the bonnet has been poached by american clients and he now lives in Amarillo, Texas and my bonnet happened to be his last job here in NZ before he left!

That thing moves! I noticed you're "pedaling" it in most gears, can't really stand on it for fear of liquefying the tires.

What's driving the tach and speedo? Stock PCM output?

Hi Nso,

I do have to pedal it from stationary through to about third gear (6 speed auto if Im trying to hard to get off the line as in the video... and I have to b careful on hard downshift at crusing speeds otherwise it can dump into third from 6th and its just nuts!

After she's bitten the road though, I can stand on it as much as I want as long as its dry!

Probably looks worse than it actually is. Very easy to drive and extremely well behaved even when the pedal is pushed hard.

I dont normally drive it as hard as what I did in the video!

I am using a speedo converter from Digital dakota which does both speedo and tach

I am only using the speedo off this though at the moment from pin 16 in the 6L90 tranny plug.

The tacho is being produced from a converter i got from Andrew at Jaguar Specialties. (It was already hooked up prior to me sorting the speedo)
