the Daimler has landed
Well, the Daimler has indeed landed.
First impressions are indeed very good. It is an absolute time warp having been in storage for many many years.
It is covered in layers of dust so a good wash and polish should really make a difference. The body seems very straight and paint in good condition.
Of course there is a million potential problems and disasters awaiting me, but for the moment, all good.
there is a mile of paperwork with the car up until it went into hibernation indicating it is a genuine 145,000 km. The condition of the interior certainly confirms this with minimal wear to the carpets etc.
The original sales docket gives the purchase price of $37,000, not a small sum.
It seems surprisingly spartan compared to the Series III Sovereign we had. Somehow it feels as if it is from a very different era to the III although basically similar design.
it is a very long term project so no pressure to get it on the road but I am keen to power up the electrics and see if I can fire up the old girl after complete fluid transfusions.

Hi all,
I failed with the pics, perhaps this will work
i apologise for the poor quality but arrived home very late after a big day to find it sitting there so just took a few very quick snaps with iPhone.

Just pushed off the truck (in my absence) into my hanger, it's new home for the foreseeable future. The first time I have really seen it properly as when purchased it had so much stuff packed around it it was difficult to get a complete picture.
The engine bay is by far the dirtiest part of the car
High quality carpets look unworn
Very slight crazing on the dash. The walnut is not quite as good as other jags I've had and nowhere near the quality of my Humber.
Paperwork seems to confirm 145,000 km.
Is this the correct speedometer? I note the it goes to only 220km/hr or is it from an XJ6?
No, I don't expect it to exceed 220 km/hr but manufacturers are generally wildly optimistic when it comes to speedo top speeds
