Default Dayton Wire Wheel Center Caps

Does anyone know where to procure some of the 3 bar jag dayton wire wheel center caps?

I just got four of the bolt on wire wheels and only one of them came with the 3 bar center cap.

I have seen a couple of them on ebay, but they all look quite rough, and expensive.

Dayton sells the caps but not the Jaguar branded. I live 45 minutes from the Dayton Wire Wheel company and last summer I took a set of wheels up to be rebuilt. I asked about the Jaguar center caps. The guy chuckled and said they made and sold them like hotcakes back when our cars were new. They sold the wires and center caps to Jaguar dealers who installed them on new cars. Then, one day after Ford had taken over Jaguar, Ford decided that Dayton was infringing on the Jaguar copyright with their center caps. But instead of having their lawyers send them a letter telling them to stop printing the logo center caps, they somehow got a bunch of over-eager FBI agents to go to the Dayton plant .... with their guns drawn. Scared everyone to death. So no more Jaguar logo center caps.

I called them today and ordered caps, the guy gave me some curt response about copyright infringement when i asked about the jaguar branded ones, but didn't elaborate.

That is a crazy story.

I went to go put the wheels on my XK8 today after getting all of the correct hardware and...... they don't fit over the calipers. Ouch.

try using spacers to clear the calipers.

Ford did a lot of damage to the aftermarket industry when they took over Jaguar Cars.
They did the same to Momo, (Italy and Germany), Motolita, Nardi, you name it. So you couldn't get horn buttons (or ANY aftermarket accessory) with the Jaguar leaper or growler logo. What Ford wanted was for aftermarket companies TO PAY to use the Jaguar logo. Those companies told Ford to shove it considering they had been making accessories with Jaguar logos for decades with Jaguar Cars permission.
In short, Ford greed and bad faith almost drove Jaguar to extinction.

Oh man, I haven't ever used spacers before but that sounds like a really bad idea.

Seems like that would put the wheel firmly into the fender of the car and the chances of me damaing the hubs increases a lot right?

I use XJ-40 Teardrop wheels in my 1984 XJ-6.
The front required 7/16" spacers to clear the calipers.
they have been like that for 20 years, no rubbing, no issues.

but it depends on the size of the tires. I use 235/60/15.
Elinor uses the same wheels with spacers too.

I am going to try and put these on my XJ6 eventually, but i was trying to get them on my XK8 at the moment.

Oh and yeah the caliper didn't fit inside of the actual wheel, not the tire. I didn't get a great view but I was thinking when you said spacers that we were talking in the realm of several inches to get it to clear. No bueno.

spacers shouldn't cause any issues.

Spacers create a lever, levers cause issues once they get big enough.
Regardless, i wouldn't want my wheels hanging out the side of the body of the car.

Beware of spacers. Some reasonably safe, others not at all. The wheels are centered on the hub. if the spaer does not so that,, it is not safe. might as well just stack on some washers!!!

Aye, Ford was very jealous of the use of it's name and logo. As owners of jaguar, they applied the same rules..

More recently K & N went on the qr path as to the use of t's name and logo!

Lessons well learned from Kimberly Clark. Lost the Kleenex name to generic status. Much the same with XEROX copiers.. ''Carl.

No problem clearing my calipers, but spacers Are required for the hub caps to properly mount on the Xj-40 teardrop rims and not foul the front bearing cups.

Unless you know my car has spacers, or if you happen to see her without front tires, you'll never know she's wearing them. 3/8 inch will do it, but you *Must* have Hub-Centric spacers! And you might need to modify them slightly to fit snugly.
