Dead battery - Silly, silly me!
Well, after 3 weeks of doing other chores -read home reno's, went into the garage to take her out for a spin. Put her in reverse, turned to crank to prime the fuel system - dead fuel pump - no hum! So,
#1 Dead Fuel Pump -Lucky me I thought I'd bought a new pump just for when this would happen. Decided to check the electric supply to the pump - none! All I did was leave her unloved for 3 weeks and this is what I get in return! So, started tracing wires back to the battery and found- what-
#2 DEAD battery, like in totally flat. Well. put on my trusty charger that refused to even recognize that a battery was attached to it. So,
#3 Must be a DEAD charger so hooked it up to the lawn tractor - charger works just fine. Hmmm. So,
#4 Must really be one DEAD battery. Cause?
#5 Perhaps a DEAD diode in the alternator - should have bought a spare when I had the chance. So,
Whipped the battery out, ran it down to my local Canadian Tire store and picked up a new identical replacement. Hooked it up and she fired right up - Hmmmm. Voltage good, everything works just fine. Took her for a spin - no issues.
Well, back to the garage, shut her down, closed the garage door to outside and entered the house from the adjoining door. Decided to turn around and look at her to try and figure out just what went wrong. So,
It was then, in a dark garage that i could clearly see one of my rear seat reading lamps pulled down and therefore on. 3 weeks before, I had cleaned her up before putting her away. Must have moved it inadvertently!
Lesson learned - It's never what your minds worst nightmares are!

I have a dead battery phobia with my new 86 XJ6. The crazy seat belt buzzer seems to have a mind of its own and sometimes won't turn off even when I exit the car with keys in my hand. So I have recently been disconnecting battery when putting her up for any time period. I saved a forum post in the procedure to disable that annoying piece of sh&%!
