Assuming you have a '95-'97 XJ6 or XJR.......
I'm pretty sure that the EGR valves usually respond well to removal and cleaning...worth a try, perhaps?
The P0430 can be oxygen sensors, cat converter failing, cracked exhaust manifold, leaky intake gasket.......or it could be nothing.
I (and a few others) have had this code come up for no apparent reason, coinciding with "Long Term Fuel Trim" counts being way out of range....also for no apparent reason....or at least no reason that we've been able to figure out. One guy fixed his by replacing the ECM/ECU. Me? I just live with it and clear the code when it pops up.
Still, though, you need to check it out as it might NOT be a false alarm.
Others will chime in
Cheers

Keith, the P0400 code is a pretty generic code simply indicating that something with the EGR system isn't playing right. In a lot of cases it is the EGR valve itself that is toast (something passing hot exhaust gases is subject to extreme conditions). But, it is also possible that the position sensor is also toast. A lot of vehicles don't directly measure the position of the EGR valve, but simply measure to see if there is a d/p across the valve. if the sensor doesn't see a d/p change, then it assumes the valve is not moving. The sensor is also subject to exhaust gases and whatnot. So, keep that in mind too. The EGR system not functioning can be causing your other code too, but at the same may be completely unrelated.
Knowing the year of your car would be helpful as there are periodic changes that are made that may alter what is your most likely problem. I know based on the codes you are giving that the vehicle is atleast a 1996.
