Does the key just spin freely when you turn it?
Can you describe what's happening?
Sometimes just cleaning and lubrication the latch and linkages does the trick
Lots of parts suppliers . SNG Barratt, Welsh Jaguar, Motorcars Unlimited, Pauls Jaguar, Terry's Jaguar, Coventry West, Jagbits, many more...even Rock Auto has lots of Jag stuff. And tech/parts manuals available on Ebay and/or from the parts vendors, printed or on disc
Cheers

Yup, that is exactly where I am. Key turns freely. Nothing happens. At least it failed in "open" ! I am not locked out!!! The paddle inside locks the doors just fine.
So, it means, on advice of folks here, that I need to remove the door card and find what mechanical link failed and come up with a fix.
Not going to mess with it til it gets warmer, a lot warmer !!!
OTH, the key does nothing on the passenger door. No spin at all. Fixed in place. Squirting in lubes did nothing...
Rain out this AM!!!

thanks Doug for the response to my post. the key seems to turn the lock ok you can hear the locks engage on the other doors.it does look as though the lock has been overturned at some time though. the door wont even unlock manually. I will remove the door panel and see if lubing the workings will help. thanks for the info on distributors.
