Engine removal

Engine removal
I have A 71 XJ6, 4.2L.
I am trying to remove the engine. Haynes manual says disconnect the exhaust manifold from the exhaust downpipe. Is this possible? The back right nut on the front manifold seams to be inaccessible from any direction with either spanner or socket. All the other nuts have been removed or were missing.
Anyone done this? Or should I remove the manifold from the engine?
Somewher I am sure there is a Jaguar engineer laughing at my attempts to acces this nut.
Any suggestions appreciated.

I have no experience with the 4.2L engine, mine had a 350 chev in it. whilst removing the 350, the manifold got in the way of everything and would have been easier to remove it before removing the engine.
If possible i would advise you to do this, for the sake of several bolts, it may make your life easier and with some flexibility in the manifold itself you may be able to reach that mysterious nut!

The manifold to pipes nuts are better accessed from underneath with a very long socket extension. Alternative is to take off the manifold, but again, some nuts are very hard to get at, albeit not impossible.
Yes, there will be a Jaguar engineer in heaven having a laugh at you whatever you do. Jaguar never thought about the poor mechanics, but remember the XJ engine bay is like an aircraft hangar compared to a Mark 2 !
