Default Exhaust XJ6 S3 (part 2)

Hi again ... anyone an idea of Mounting "straight" end pipes? An special reason for Jaguar to mount the curved ones? I like it very much origininal but sometimes a little "break" might look interesting ... Opinions? THX Peter

The exhaust pipes were straight on early Series 1s but exhaust fumes were carried forward and could enter the cabin via an open window, so after some tests, the curved pipes were introduced. On my 1980 XJ6 they were beautifully made stainless steel items. Mine no longer included the stainless steel clamps, so I ordered these from a UK supplier. I would not alter these if I were you.

I think you can do it but with two caveats:

1) the exhaust fumes factor as Frasier said,

2) they might be too low under the auspension
cage scratching the road, and even then, they would need to be bent or angled up to exit through the valance panel holes.

But you can experiment with two pipes.

Just my personal opinion, but why would anyone replace those gorgeously curved stainless steel babies for something straight?

Knowing now that they are not curved to be gorgeous but to "repair" a construction mistake i´m still more convinced to change them... see photos ;-)

I personally like my curvy ones but in the photo you provided the straight tips look more modern and looks good with your wheel/tire package. Like you say, fun to change up every now and then; you can always go back to the original at some future date if you want.

Gotta say. Stright pipes look nice.

I do not recall. but, it seems that merely swapping in straight chrome extensions for the curly ones is stright forward. Sans the need to go under the cage. although more than one guy has done the under the cage thing with success.
