Default Exhausting your Lump

While I'm waiting for my transmission to be delivered, I thought a couple of items in the exhaust system should addressed. I'm going with 2 1/4" pipes leaving head pipes from Sun Coast Conversions, all the way to the rear bumper. An "H" cross-over will be used as well as two more flange-coupling points for easier removal. I don't see enough room under the floor pan for traditional mufflers, so I plan the use the space behind the rear wheel wells where the stock resonators(?) were. That space is not quite big enough for any of the oval mufflers I've come across, but Flowmaster, Magnaflow, and Vibrant have round units that would fit nicely. So, what's my problem you say......well, I want this car to be quiet and that seems to be very uncommon to after market muffler makers. Don't get me wrong, I don't want it to sound like a Tesla, but it has to pass muster as a Luxury Sleeper around town. And I'd want to listen to my wife as we're motoring at speed.

Those of you who are ahead of me in this area, I would appreciate you comments. Thanks

Dave

Here is a pic of mine , but only the front half, for the mufflers I used. A pair of cherry bomb turbos, installed vertically in the space of old resonators, it’s got a bit of a burble , but that’s the cam, not really loud until I mash the pedal! Zero drone, and cruising at 70-80, cannot hear exhaust inside car! Will see if I can dig up another pic. Of lore of system

I used the round Magnaflow mufflers on my LT1 in the rear resonator spot... ran the pipes under the IRS first. Use V bands instead of flanges, more expensive but work well.
Jag sounded like a 80's Corvette, not loud but nice...
2d picture is how it was done, and first picture shows "next time" with the V bands.

Lost a reply somewhere!! Damned internet hates me!!!
will post again, so if other other shows up, disregard one !

Not the best picture, as it’s a still from my video, left muffler dropped again after getting it fixed, realized after the install, that even though I had made muffler shop Install system in 2 pieces, being slip joints, I could not get them Apart, so I cut After the H to get transmission out... I used the sleeve type clamps( not really good, they leak) , so next time I go to muffler shop, going to have them install flanges. (Or v clamps, they look Easier to handle and seal)

pipe is 2.25, and although it looks like it hangs very low, it is about 1/2 much from
bottommof cage, and I have yet to hit anything!

Darren and Roger, thanks for those pictures. I have a couple of them from past posts, but the brand/type of muffler is the advise I was looking for.

Darren, the rear picture is a help. Glad to hear you haven't had any clearance problems going under the cage even though the pipes are in plain sight.

Roger, Magnaflow makes that round muffler in 4 different diameters (4", 5", 6", 7") and two different lengths (20", 24"), do you remember which model is in your picture? I had a '73 Corvette back in the day and liked the sound. The 80's were the height of the first attempt of smog control and the exhaust sound was probably pretty low-key, just right.

Thanks again for the info.

I remember they were 20" but do not know the diameter.. largest one that would fit! Would probably try the 24" now, but that was not available when I did the job.
Never had any trouble hitting anything with the below the IRS mounts. You would have to enlarge the holes to get the 2.25 inch pipes through the stock cage
without any rattling.

If they only made the curved Jaguar tail pipes in 2.25 inch... had to squash down the pipes to get them on my '71 Jag, but they look good.
