I've never seen one but that doesn't mean there weren't any.
It says "Original," but we are dealing with CraigsList after all, and people can post anything they want.
My own car was originally listed there as Series 3. Seller thought he could get away with it because it has several Series 3 bits attached.

There were no 'factory' wire wheels, either....but that's a common misconception.
In saying "black over burgundy" I believe the seller is describing an all black car with dark red interior, not a two tone paint job. Than manner of description/expression isn't used much these days
Cheers

Doug is right that "color1 over color2" usually means color1 = exterior color and color2 = interior color. Used frequently on bringatrailer.com (great site, BTW). But look closely at the listing photo and in one of them you can see that the top of the car is black and below the feature line is burgundy. Totally weird.
Given what restored coupes are going for these days I imagine these will get swooped up quickly. They need to post in the L.A. Craigslist.

While all of the above is true regarding descriptions, the original (and no longer pertinent) question remains: was there a two tone paint option from the factory for the Series III? The answer is NO because the people at Jaguar generally had good taste. That said, it was possible to specify bespoke paint colours at an unspecified cost!

I wish there was a side profile pic of the car. I seriously considered a real dark burga
ndy below the feature line with the black above, but was talked out of it by my paint guy. So I went all black instead. I'm not disappointed at all, but still wonder what the dark burgundy would look like.

The year is 1975 and Cadillac presents its new "International" sized model....The 1976 Seville. It's not difficult to see the XJ6 influence. The car is a smashing success for Cadillac. It's fast, nimble, economical, but it was widely criticized by the Cadillac faithful for not having a Cadillac engine. Interesting... it has a fuel injected Oldsmobile engine. As a package it worked. I had two, 1 Elegante and they're a bright spot among the group of malaise era 70's cars.
By 1978 Cadillac offered up an premium model called the Seville Elegante with chrome strip and factory 2 tone paint. At the time this was so revolutionary for America's most conservative luxury brand and it was very well received. Even today, Elegant's are highly sought after. The two tone paint job became a "thing" again as many people resorted to cosmetic customizations. The bright colors and high HP of the muscle car era were in the rear view mirror as performance and speed parts were far less practical in the smog era. What came first in the 70's? Cadillac or the Customizers? I dont know but I suspect the customizers... Cadillac made it classy.
Curiously the start up performance luxury brand BMW targeted this car in their sales brochure for it's shoddy american build quality. The BMW brochure actually has pictures of the Seville and it's poorly fitting trim parts. Something unheard of today. Now-a-days BMW would just hire a journalist to do their bidding. Fast forward 40 years and BMW is at the top of the Luxury pyramid while Cadillac and Jaguar are on the ropes, I suspect one of them wont last the decade.

Good evening to all ...
A few of my classics have a two tone paint and... I just love it! My black 1992 Daimler Double Six Series III requires a new paint and I'm toying with the idea of a two tone scheme. Maybe even piping the seats ??
Silver over black or burgundy over black.
Either as in the images in this thread, along the waist line, or as on Silver Clouds: front separation stemming from the radiator, then the roof and finally the boot lid only, not the rear wings.
Fire away your opinions. Images are very welcome and will be very helpful!

- Does anyone know of any App to "virtually" paint a car?
- Does anyone know if seats can be piped aftermarket?

I wish 2-tone paint schemes would come back in style (and no, the current trend of having a black roof panel doesn't count). Back in the early 80s, when I was in high school, my then aspirational sporty brand new car came in a variety of two-tone schemes. For inspiration....

Our local professional football team (American football) colors are blue and silver so it was kinda cool to see Dark Blue and Silver running around town. And Datsun had this paint scheme.
Don't know of an app, but the lady who does that blog linked above works in Illustrator/Photoshop, does T-shirts for the club and all sorts of digital artwork that she sells online. Probably a piece of cake for her or somebody like her. What I like to do to help me decide on colors is get a plastic or inexpensive die-cast model of my car and cans of touch-up spray paint in the colors I'm considering. You don't have to do a great job on a model just to get the visual. But at least with a model, you can try it out in all sorts of lighting, dawn, dusk, mid-day, parking-garage, etc. before you decide. Look forward to seeing your results.
