The XJR is Carnival Red Mica (last post corrected), it was Number 24 that was Regency Red Mica. Although the two cats were never “side by side”, I don’t think they were identical colours (ie just a name change) despite how similar they look in most (but not all) lighting. They’re both, as you know, quite complex colours but the XJR seems to have a “broader range” and in some lighting will take on a slightly more “orange” hue than the VDP parked in the same place.

And you are correct in correcting me! Yes, your car is Carnival Red, neither Cardinal Red nor Regency Red. Regardless, it is gorgeous and a joy to see.

Could you post an image of the hub caps that your mention? I don't understand which car you refer to, amongst those in this thread.
The Canadian JX seems to have a two tone stripe coachline (post #53). Maybe I misunderstood your comment?

I suspect these are the hub caps. Auto Reserve are a good source for wheels and other parts. I think the Solar and Crown wheels might be the best wheel upgrades. They are are much more distinguished and suitable for a Daimler than most typical modern alloys. They are 16 and 17 inch, which gives a wider choice of sensibly priced, high performance tyres than the standard 15 inch wheels. Next time I have to buy tyres for my Daimler, I will definitely be looking at swapping to one of them.
The last set of Pirelli P4000 cost me a fortune in Italy. Tyres are expensive when Ferrari 250GT owners (they take the same size) are complaining about the cost.

What do you all think of black with cream interiors, red piping, red coachline, red hub caps??
I couldn't find any images, online, of Daimler Double Six with those wheels. Can you find any? Were they official Jaguar options? Will they fit on a series III? I am trying to find images of these wheels on a Jaguar or Daimler to appreciate if they look in period with the motorcar.

A few months ago I saved these red ones on eBay, as I was thinking of a red coachline already then.

The coachline in post #53 is a twin stripe, but one colour ( gold). For the XJS, there were coachlines available in two stripes and two colours, i.e. each stripe was a different colour.

I have been googling "crown + wheel + Jaguar" and "Solar + wheel + Jaguar" but I cannot find any images...

Crown wheels were used on the Daimer V8, Solar on the Super V8.

Also correct is that they are both the same narrow width with a narrow gap between them and they merge and end bluntly, not to a point.
These are on my ‘92 which was repainted (full glass out and exquisite if I do say so myself - it probably cost roughly or more than the car is worth today) several years before I bought her ten years ago but they are correctly reproduced:
It’s also worth noting where they start and where they finish relative to the side marker lights as they’re too often extended too far forward and too far back.

There are some Solar on the Auto Reserve website, but no Crown at present (they aren't so common). There's also Starburst, a vaguely similar pattern.

Thank you. This is all very useful, especially the coach-lines - they look very beautiful the way they join up.

I doubt that my body work garage will be able to reproduce that kind of coach lines. I might have to find a specialist who does but, in Italy, this may prove impossible... Since we are painting 4 layers of transparent cover (flatting 800, 1000, 1500 in between each) over the colour, I think that I might get away with decals, and then overlay them with transparent cover. Do decals exist? What do you think?
Decals would be the easy way to go also because a coat of arms - extra thin transparent decal - will be applied in the centre, top, between the chrome decoration and the window, of the rear doors (*). The bodywork garage owner, believes that if he puts enough transparent, there will be no ridge.
Wheels:
What is your opinion? Are they preferable to pepperpots? I am not convinced. Someone suggested chroming the pepperpots but, in all honesty, I agree with Craig, they may look foolish. While Crown and Solar do not look foolish, in fact look beautiful, I am wondering if they will be an improvement over the pepperpots...
(*) I am also considering centre of the rear door, slightly higher than the middle and the C pillar.

When my XJS was hit, the bodyshop went to a local signprinter/ graphic designer and had the coachlines made to match the originals. When the car were built, the body was painted, and the coachline applied near the end of the assembly process. There is no clearcoat over the tape.
Wheels are easy to change later, maybe stay with the pepperpots for now and see what you think when the car is finished? Depending on how you drive, part of the appeal for me is the tall sidewalls of the 15"tires really contribute to the magic carpet ride, a shorter tire may not keep the low speed smoothness.

I'm thinking of applying the coachline under.
I'm planning to apply 3 or even 4 layers of clear coat on top of the colour, because I've seen this done on a concourse Bentley Azure and it was stunning. By adding multiple clear coat layers, the depth of the transpatent layer increases and light refracts with a beautiful appearance of depth. This same effect cannot be obtained with only one clear coat layer. It would not look proper to add a coach line in top.
Could tell me who produced your coach line, I would contact him: he might be able to produce a coach line thin enough to go under the clear coat layers.

First registered in Denmark in 1993 (but it's a 1992 build)
Now that you mention it, I might prefer to NOT have a coach line there 🤔
