First XJ 6?
Hi. i want an XJ 6. I know nothing about them, but I am handy with a wrench. I have been a BMW E30 Series man for about 4 years. I still have one 325, but now I want a Jag. How does this one in the ad look to you experts? Aside from what is mentioned, what else can I expect to replace soon? Timing belt, Alt? What are common problems at this mileage? What should I look for? Although I have not looked at it yet, let's go under the assumption that the standard dealer servicing every 4000 (5000?) miles was not performed. All opinions, advice, information, and comments welcomed and appreciated. Thanks.

Here's some preliminary reading:

These are great cars. The usual scenario is buying the car, spending a chunk of money and time sorting out all the repairs that have been previously neglected, and then enjoying a great automobile.
If cosmetics are important to you its improtant to remember that paint, wood, carpets, leather, etc are way more expensive than mechanical repairs, assuming DIY labor, of course.
No timing belt on a 4.2
Replacing rear brake calipers is labor intensive
Offhand it looks like a decent car for the money but there's not much to go on from the text of the ad
Watch out for sign of a leaky head gasket
Cheers

new old Jag....
The motors are strong and long lasting if serviced regularly. They aren't any more expensive to repair than the average car unless the average car is a 1968 Beetle.
Once you have all the stuff sorted they are quite reliable. Mine XJ6 is my daily drive with over 208000 miles. And, I just bought an XJS.
PS. XJ6's aren't as quick as a BMW, but that isn't why you own a Jag.
