Default Fix to my non-responsive climate control

It's been a journey almost a year in the making when you factor in 6 months worth of frustration breaks. First it was swapping out the compressor, driver and expansion valve (that was fun). Then the ac charging tech informed me I had no lower compressor mounting bracket. Go find one of those and install it. Sounds simple but stupid me did not think to check with Dave at everydayxj. Then I discover I have no power to the entire climate control system. Now it's winter in Michigan so there goes 4 months. I get into it again in May and I find a video on YouTube from Allen Bradley showing his amplifier which is what the photo is. Before he sold me one he painstakingly walked me through what seemed like 25-30 tests before he helped me discover that I also had a bad master switch. The switch was not fun to replace at all. You have to remove the console, radio faceplate and radio and the assembly with the trip computer just to remove the bracket that held the switch. Pre-assembled everything and the jag gods must have felt sorry for me but cold air came out the vents when I fired it up yesterday. So far so good. With Allen's amp, you set the climate switch to auto and use the temperature selector to not only adjust the air temperature bit it also drives the fan speed and vent selection. Pretty cool (pun intended) . Now I can go back to the fun stuff like going from 5.25" to 7" outer headlights.

Allen Bradley is the maker of the amplifier. Not sure if he is a member of this forum but he sure did help me big time.

Novom2001 is what you type into the YouTube search box. Like many automotive fixes, this solution is probably not for everyone.

He also has a video showing his 83 xj6 that he converted to a 5 speed manual. Pretty cool

ok, thanks for the info. I was not aware of him. There is a site called jagaire.com who also offers an amplifier.

Yup Jose, I heard of them. Allen was so helpful (maybe he took pity on me) I just had to go with him. Check out his YouTube videos. He's done some cool things. I hope someone on this forum can learn from my ordeal . Ren

Congratulations, Ren!
I spent a full winter (2018-2019) completely rebuilding my climate control, tearing my hair and learning new words.
Great to have it all working as it should, isn't it.

Lnrb, don't you know it. To think I got it working the day before I was to take it to a very busy and expensive repair shop specializing in older European cars. I had made that appointment 2 months prior. I figure I kept at least a grand in my pocket so I can go shopping for a trinket or two. Maybe a new set of chrome wheels and tires????

This thread and a few others have scared me into a modern system. Amazed with those who have fought the Delanair and lived to tell the tale. My XJ6C is fully apart right now so I figure now is the time to fab in a Vintage Air or Restomod Air system.

GASP!!!!
But if you do that, it will no longer be (here comes the sacred word) ORIGINAL!!
And you will have made (here comes one of their favorites) DOG WASTE of it!
And you will have (here comes another of their favorites) DESTROYED its "value!"
(/humor)

Mind you, those who will say that don't OWN your car, nor do they have to live with it, nor are they likely in the market for one.

I'm a firm believer that It's YOUR car, and whatever you need to do to make it better for YOU, Go for it!

Originality went out the window a long time ago. Well out the bonnet anyway. I absolutely love the looks of the coupes but I’m building a car I can comfortably and reliably drive.

LS3COUPE, be sure to take lots of photos and please document your project here so we can see how the modern unit can be adapted to our cars.

If you look at Thorsen's thread in the XJS section, he has done this to an XJS.
Great idea, IMO.

Over in the Xjs section, Thomas Thorsen did that with his car last winter and documented it in great detail.
You might find some useful hints there.

ls3coupe, for what it's worth, there is a fairly intact coupe sitting in a junkyard in westland mi (westgate salvage). it's rough but mostly there. i don't think there are many of these around. ren
