Default fuel sending unit

I am replacing the fuel sending unit on my 87 xj6. Some sources list the senders as left and right, others do not indicate a side application. Is there a difference or is this just a part number distinction not an application issue?

Thanks for any info......Bob

Mine for Series 2 are side specific. I can't speak to Series 3.

I have just received two new sender units, left and right, from Jagdaim.

They are marked left and right, with labels, but look identical apart from the length of the float arm.

Would there be a diffence between the two which is not visible, ie electronic setup such as resistance of wiper?

Has anyone bought a pair that were obviously different? Or anyone bought a pair that looked the same?

I would like to confirm before installing, to save the hassle of pulling them out again.

Cheers.

I replaced both of mine and you're right, they look identical except the float arms are bent in a mirror image to each other.

No mirroring with these. Just one arm longer.

The sending units look different between our car series, Bosco15. I think there is some confusion in this thread. Bob started the thread with a fuel sending unit question for his '87 xj6 and my reply is based on experience with my '85 xj6. Elinor commented that her S2 units are side specific as well. Someone will chime in who is familiar with your year or you could just take the old ones out and compare them, if you're going to replace them anyway.

The sending unit my my 94 was leaking. Not the seal or the rivets. Replaced it, problem solved.
