Default Fuel Tanks/ Caps?

Does the series II XJ have a latch that allows the hood to open more like a Mercedes W126? I keep forgetting the catch trigger is there until it pokes me in the back of the head (again). Thanks.

I took my retaining strap apart temporarily 20 something years ago. Separated the halves and left them bolted on. Hood opens all the way to almost touch the bumper, it made the engine bay so accessible I never put the strap back together, and although I've not yet experienced a wind gust strong enough to be a problem, it is worth noting that the strap has a purpose. That said, fellow forum member here, @david84xj makes a nice kit to remedy this problem and is highly recommended.

Member David makes the Boot Lid mod
I think the poster is referring to the Bonnet mod which is made by member Jeff.

Seems that the inventor is indeed Jeff, but it looks like David is having them made and purchases are made through him. I bought mine from David in Grover Bch, Ca.

Thanks everyone you guys saved my scalp for sure. Has anyone retrofitted series III gas tanks in a series II car? The tanks won't quite give me enough room to fit the filler caps.

I have a few of the machine parts still available. Would take a few days to get the hardware kit together. PM me if you are interested in details on kit, and any questions you may have. 25 kits were sent out before every thing got expensive.

they’ll fit. Hang the tank by the single long vertical bolt, put the series 2 caps in place first without the o rings, then carefully shim and tweek the tank into position and tighten the three mounting bolts. May have to rinse and repeat a few times. Get the hoses in and clamps in place before final tightening of the tank bolts.
