if the vapor is only in the cabin, the source must be in the cabin.
I know there is a fuel line that enters the cabin from the trunk, it is behind the rear seat Back, passenger side, then it travels to the front under the door threshholds.
To see this foam-covered line, the rear seat and back must be removed. To follow it, the aluminum door threshholds must be removed too.

Thanks!! I will take a look at that in the morning. I just had those out recently, so I know where to look. Thanks again!!

It could be any fuel pipe that is in the cabin, I do not know where they run on your model, but I was referring to the fact that every fuel tank in a car has some sort of overflow drain, and if these are routed through the cabin/near the cabin, they are a likely source of fuel smells at a full tank.

On the Series III the vapor pipes run under the rear parcel shelf and then upwards into the C-pillars. Any small leak in this system could easily migrate into the cabin. Really, the little cannisters in the C-pillars are virtually inside the cabin.

Fuel odors travel in mysterious ways.

Dried-out gas cap seals are often over looked as a possible culprit but vapor leaks here can be drawn into the cabin. I don't really understand how but it happens.

At the front of the cylinder head is a 2" long section of fuel hose that often leaks. It seldom gets replaced, might be worth checking.

The underbody feed and return pipes can leak as well. This is not common but, if they're rusty, it is possible.

And, as always, remember that it doesn't have to be a wet, drippy leak to cause a big smell. Just an oooze will do it.

The electric cannister purge valve is operated by the air switching module which triggered by a coolant temp sensor on the water rail. The air switching module also controls the air injection diverter valve. It also has a "lambda inhibit" function, the exact function of which I've never seen explained in any Jaguar literature....but isn't important in this thread anyway.

yes I forgot about the C pillar fuel vapor canisters, and that is probably the source.

FOUND IT!!!! The valves behind the rear tires were bad. When driving on the right tank, fuel was being returned to the left tank. Happily, I have two new ones that I can install. BTW someone said something about a "sock" going on the end of these valves in the tank. Anyone know what that is? Thanks again everyone!!

The sock is on the ends of the main pickup tube in the pickup sump, not on the return tubes in each tank. Socks are accessible by removing the large brass plug with the drain plug in it, bottom of the sock is then visible. Takes some work to get them out with needlenose pliers etc sometimes as they can be stuck to the pickup tube pretty good.

Be very sure you have clean tanks and fuel before changing these, rusty fuel is what quickly makes them require changing.
BTW... for those evap hoses be sure to use hose rated for fuel vapor.
