Happy birthday XJ6 series III

Happy birthday XJ6 series III
The series III turns 40 this year. They were introduced in the latter half of 1979. The early ones have gotten a lot of criticism about build quality and electrical gremlins but my experience with my 79 has not born this out. Yes, there were a lot of mossy electrical connections but those were easily sorted. The usual Delanaire Mk2 problems but nothing out of the ordinary. The only feature that is really different from later years is that I have fresh air vents in the foot wells controlled by knobs under the dash. My car is Cotswold Yellow which is very much in keeping with the 70s. A friend of mine said it reminded him of bellbottoms and sideburns. So happy 40th, series III, here's to the next 40!
The old girl doesn't look bad for 40.

Very elegant, but my 1980 4.2 must have been one of the worst built cars ever built by Jaguar. I had the car 14 years and spent most of that time putting right what Jaguar had failed to do correctly. So why didn't I sell it on ? Well, like most others, I suspect, I was beguiled by the looks and the Magic Carpet ride.
I had a quick look on the government website that allows one to check the VED status and my old car is still around. It is on SORN (off-road), but the MOT is valid until September 2019, so it looks as if it is in limited use, probably summer only. So all that work I did was not in vain; it is a survivor !!
