Help! 1983 Jaguar XJ6 Fuel Pump Problems!
I recently purchased an ‘83 Jaguar XJ6 with a faulty starter for $1300. I replaced the starter and battery, and after a few minor hiccups, I have been able to turn the car over but the pump will not cycle fuel. It appears that the ignition system works correctly, I learned the hard way when the spark plug wire bit me. So I believe it is fuel pump related. I engaged and disengaged the fuel inertia cut off switch to no avail. I then removed the fuel pump relay and connected a jumper wire to the green/white fuel pump wire and nothing happened. The fuel pump appears to be new. Is there anything I haven’t checked before I decide to replace the fuel pump? Thank you in advance!

Some cars have two white/green wires at the fuel pump relay. Make sure you're powering up the right one....which is just a matter of trying both !
Are you sure the fuel pump is grounded?
Check wiring polarity at the terminals of the fuel pump. Sometimes the "+" and "-" symbols are so small that they can't be seen. Maybe someone wired it up wrong?
If you have a long enough jumper wire trying going from the battery "+" post to the pump "+" post
Cheers

can you HEAR the fuel pump when you turn the ignition switch to START?
you should be able to.
try this:
Place shifter in Position 1,
turn ignition switch to START position and hold it there for 3 to 5 seconds while listening for the humm or buzz from the fuel pump.
Can you hear the fuel pump humming as you hold the switch?
if yes, the pump is fine.
Do you have plenty gasoline in each tank?
if yes, next check is the INERTIA FUEL CUTOFF SWITCH.
It is located forward of the front passenger door, in a straight line down from the "A" pillar. Behind the corner end of the dash
It is a square box with a wiring connector at the bottom and a RESET push button at the top.
find it and press the RESET button to see if it clicks when you push it down. If the button feels springy, no click, then the switch is fine and not tripped.
If the STARTER cranks the engine but no start, check the START RELAY and the wiring connections at the relay.
From there on, if still no start, it could be the Ignition Amplifier, or other Ignition component, it could even be the Ignition Switch itself, all known silly issues with these cars. But don't give up yet. Check the NO START CHECKLIST written by Doug, you can find it in the HOW TO section at the top of this page.
