start by rolling the fuses in the 5-fuse fusebox located near the coolant filler tank in the engine compartment. Removing the fuses and cleaning them, inspecting them is better. The 5th fuse is for the auxiliary electric cooling fan located below the front bumper.

The relay is probably stuck. It's a 'latching' relay. The stalk switch triggers the relay be grounding it. Each time the relay operates it latches or unlatches.

Do you hear the relay click when you operate the stalk? If so, then the relay is working but I suspect the latching mechanism is broken inside the relay.

If you don't hear a click.....

Remove the blue/black wire from the relay. Use another wire to ground the now-vacant terminal. If the relay now operates then your stalk switch isn't completing the ground circuit

Cheers

There isn’t a click.I suspect it’s the stalk not grounding. The relay is a reconditioned one I put in to see if it would solve the problem. I’ll
check it anyway, just in case. The fuses also. What’s the the best way to check the stalk switch?

Go to this thread and look at post #6. It's shows the ground tab at the base of the stalk and the blue/black wire. You should see the same or similar (I've seen a couple different style tabs) and fixed them just by cleaning them.

You'll have to remove the column shrouds to see this. Or at least the lower one. Be careful when handling them; they're fragile. And don't over-tighten the screws on reassembly

Doug, the only blue black wire I see on the relay also has a red wire attached to it.
Is that the same wire you mentioned?. Also, is there a trick to getting the top half of the steering wheel shroud off to get a better look at the contacts? Thanks, Joe

Your probably seeing the capacitor, which is covered in red insulation.

Proceed as planned

Once you have the bottom shroud off look underneath and you'll see one or two screws that hold the upper shroud to a metal bracket. Remove those screws and wriggle the shroud away.

If the shroud doesn't want to come away, don't force it. Lower the steering column a bit. This is very easy. Remove the under-dash trim panel and loosen (don't remove) the two large-ish nuts that support the steering column. This allows the entire column to drop down a bit.

Cheers
