How to Fully Drain Transmission?
Hi Team
In another thread I mentioned that my transmission is making a funny "whining" type noise following change of my motor mounts. I think I figured out why. I'd actually changed the trans filter and gasket right before (while I had the car on stands) I fixed the motor mount and I believe I used Dexon VI instead of Dexron III. I can't remember, but I am pretty sure I did and I think this would account for the noise. So I am going to drain and refill using Dexron III just to rule that out. Only question is I don't know how to fully drain the transmission because of the residual in the torque converter. I've done the three change method in another car and can certainly do that here, just would prefer to do it all in one go if I can. Is there a way to do this? If I suction out the fluid can I run the car in Park for some period of time to evacuate the torque converter into the pan? I assume not, but don't know.

I agree with Clyde on the Dex VI, what I have done when trying to drain all the fluid possible is take the pan/filter off and start the engine in park for about 5 seconds. You'll see a gush of oil from the bottom of the trans, which is the converter expelling it's oil. I think this is about the best you can do and almost all trans fluid is compatible with another.
