Thought I would post this so others see that even an idiot can fix his seat !
This is what the drivers side bolster on my XJ6 looked like.

It detracted from the rest of the otherwise very good interior. I have used products from LeatherMagic before, so I bought the kit with the factory doeskin colourant.
First step is to place spare materials underneath the leather and glue it in to place

Then you cut out leather patches to fill the holes. The leather patches are glued down to the material you added in the first step

Then you apply the rubberised repair compound over the top...... this is the bit that takes some time and patience to get right. Basically you need to apply a coat, then sand it back, then apply another coat, etc until its really smooth

Then you start to apply the colourant. After one coat it doesn't look good and you are thinking to yourself "What have I done"

But after a few coats, it looks pretty good.

Not perfect, but a whole lot better than it looked before.

I've had it last for years on previous jobs I used it for. Interestingly on one job, the area I had repaired remained intact even when the surrounding leather started to fail. I think the key is to not use the car or stress the repair for 3 or 4 days if you can. This allows the repair and colourant to really set properly

Here you go..... Deluxe Leather Repair & Restoration Kit | Furniture & Car Seat Repair kit
It was like that from the PO. It's the usual place where, if you are a little bit on the portly side, your rear end rubs the seat on the way in :-)
