Ignition key not turning

My 91 XJS 12 Classic Collection convertible. I parked it, changed to a new battery and now the key will not turn past position 1. Turns freely to the 1st position, but not past it. Where do I start looking for an answer on this.

wrong forum, try the XJ-S forum, also try turning the steering wheel as you move the switch.
