Ignition Pin Broken .. Ideas?
i'm guessing this is fairly fatal .. broken pin ..can i further dismantle this barrel and make repairs? .. there is a small beam on the base that looks broken and a copper sheath with no wire in it.. what is missing? would i need special tools to dig down further. any clever fixes...?
broken peg or pin.
the wee beam secured by the screw appears broken, what was it? also only one of the two wires has a wire the other pin is empty, what is missing here.?

In order to disassemble further, you must remove the lock tumbler mechanism out the key way. Then the whole thing will drop out in your hands, so you should do this over some sort of containment vessel. I have a silicon sheet made for electronics repair that I use for this purpose.
There should be a tiny hole in the area of the key hole that hides a locking pin. When tripped, the lock will come out of the housing as mentioned. It's been some time since I did this (back in my misspent youth) so I'm a little murky exactly how, but a locksmith will have the exact pin punch to take the thing apart.

Adding but only a littlr to Elinor's tales from her murky past.
The pin is what locks the steering wheel with the key out. You may opt to live sans this feature Strong crooks bust 'em with impunity.
The two copper spades are for the ignition on warning bell. You can live sans that as well. The PO of my car disconected it On the install of a complete new switch, I connected it. As am hearing impaired, no big deal. with my aids on, I hear it loud and clear. Sans them, I hear a light buzzz...
I use a pair of small pans when dealing with stuff that has bits...
Blew a fuse, old house, glass fuses. Forgot, had too many gadgets lit up.. Now to find which one!!!!!! Use a small ladder to get to the box. In a closet and hard to reach... Dumb place to put it!!!!
Happy Easter to all.

Guys
That pin in that position looks to me like the pin that turns the plastic, electrical switch part of the ignition switch assembly - which slots into that part of the switch metal casting.
The pin that locks the steering, I think, is on the longer, thinner part of the casting, and that looks intact.
If I am right, the a replacement metal part is the only option.
