Information help
Hi, My name is Phillip Doerr. I am in highschool, I am wanting to redo a car. I was going to redo a amc javelin, I then saw an add in the local paper for a jaguar. I did some research on it and i liked the car. The add says:
Jagaur 1987 VANDER PLAUS rebuilt motor, to many additions to list excellent mechanical conditon.
I was wondering the following.
Is the engine known for having maintance issues?
How hard is it to get interior, trim and other parts for it?
Will it break the bank buying small parts?
How hard are they to work on?
I think i posted this in the right forum.
Thanks in advance Phillip

If you are in the USA a 1987 VandenPlas is a Ser III car with a 4.2 6-cylinder and the following articles will give you a good general idea of what you might be getting into.

In a very brief nutshell these are great cars and most mechanical parts are fairly inexpensive and easy to find. Interior trim repairs can be very expensive, though, so be careful there.
If this is your first shot at fixing up an older car I'd be a little uneasy about recommending it as a learning project but if you have the will and desire many here will help you.
Unless you find (and pay for) an exceptional example the car WILL be needing repairs so plan on many weekends and a chunk of cash to get everything up to snuff. These cars CAN be reliable but it takes some time and money to make and keep them that way.
Cheers
