Default Interior colour touch ups and recommended mechanics

Hi All,

Wondered if anyone has touched up colour on their leather, and able to recommend a supplier for substances!? - mine's doeskin. I've cleaned and fed it, but need to now recolour in a couple of places where the marks won't come out or the cleaning has faded it!

And as another aside, can anyone can recommend any mechanics or specialists in and around the South East of England especially Surrey or South London?

I've used Fenn Motorworks in Reading before on my X350 daily a few years back and they were awesome, but they're just a bit too far to go right now for this old Xj6 that's not got an MOT and needs some tlc!!!

Thanks a lot, Al.

My 77 XJ6C has a Biscuit Interior and had cracking on the center & rear armrests. Patched with EIDECHSE 02 Beige and Rustoleum 263653 Camouflage Sand is a near perfect match.

There are various sources for the leather dye. I have used both Surflex by Color Plus, and Leatherique, both of which produce a oerfect OEM finish. And the Doeskin tones mixed by Color Plus produced a perfect match -one thing to note is that the Doeskin for 1992 is slightly darker than previous Doeskin tone - both were matched perfectly. There are other sources for Jaguar leather dyes in Europe.

In all cases, as far as I know, the colourants are water-based polymer finishes, so both application and clean-up are very easy. Once properly dried (24 hours, but dry to the touch in 20 minutes) the finish is as durable or more durable than the original leather finish.

I have used these products in more than 20 Series III restorations, every one have passed concours examination without comment by judges. Application is very, very easy and these products can be used on both the leather and vinyl.

Furniture Clinic carry all the correct colours for Jaguar leather and they give a discount if you are a member of the JEC

The SKU 263653 is important. They have recently called othe paint Camoflage Sand. It's NOT a match.

Default Color Frustration

Everyone considers BRG to be a crap shoot. Did discover on my 77 XJC that the amount of Black seems to be the key when matching.
Also, why do NONE of the color charts shown online for say "Biscuit" match the actual color of the interior ?

I cut a sample of the hidden leather and vinyl that had never been exposed to the sun, and took it to my local auto paint store, told them to match it for use on leather and vinyl. They did and it came out perfect. One spray can of the Biscuit and I touched up everything perfectly. $22.00 for the one spray can in early 2022. The moral of the story? don't sweat it !

Not everyone can afford or want to spend 54 Pounds or Euros for one ounce or even 11 of touch up with so much to be done on a BL produced product with so many quality inconsistencies right out of the factory. Other than personal enjoyment, the ROI is not there.

Re leather colours, Furniture Clinic in the UK have a good reputation with colour charts for most car makes;
https://www.furnitureclinic.co.uk/co...r-colour-chart

Re mechanics, I have used XJ Motor Services in Lyne near Chertsey.
Jaguar Service Specialist | Surrey | Berkshire | Middlesex | XJ Motor Services |

They are a bit difficult to find being down a long single track lane that seems to lead to nowhere and you need to use their (rather rough) loan car, or have someone pick you up, as there is no public transport nearby. I know of at least one dealer who uses them and have seen plenty of recommendations. Just don’t expect dealer type services and facilities.

I have also heard good reports from members of the local J E C for
Surrey Jag Centre; https://surreyjagcentre.co.uk/
Jag & Land; https://jagandlandsurrey.com/
and Winspeed; https://www.winspeedmotorsport.com/

Hope that helps.

Found it only matches the heavily faded areas. Discovered when removing the rear seats.

Which product was the “it” that you refer to? Leather fades with exposure to sun so at a certain point it no longer has the same colour tone as the Ambla (vinyl) or the leather in protected areas - as you have found.
The best procedure is to send a piece of the unfaded leather (and there is a lot of this on the underside of the seats) so that it can be matched. Done this way, the results are perfect. My experience is with both the Color Plus and the Leatherique colourants.

Default Ristoldeum Sand 263653

No match for Biscuit. You would think that Jag Biscuit & Jag BRG would be a spec not a variable.
