Default Intermittent stalling/Ignition Amplifier?

HELP!! My 86 XJ6 can run well for weeks and then unexpectedly it just just dies. The electrical system shuts down I cannot restart it. So far I have replaced both the pick up unit and coil. My best guess is that the issue has to do with something overheating or over stressed as it will restart easily after a cooling off period. Maybe a problem with the Ignition Amplifier?? What do you guys think?

if you already replaced the ignition amplifier and the coil, I would replace the ignition switch, which is suspect. Also the ignition Cap and rotor. But the symptom you describe sounds like a worn ignition switch.

Inside the amplifier is an ignition module, AC Delco part number D1906. This is what typically fails and they're known for "Fails hot, OK when cool" behavior. As guesses go, it's a fair bet.

As Jose mentioned the ignition switch is also a common culprit although, in my experience, they don't share the hot/cool pattern of failure.

His DD, Thanks for the quick reply. Do you happen to know the part number for the condenser that is included in the module? regards, dave

I don't, nor have I ever replaced one.

Over the years I've heard some say that "any condenser from a typical points-type ignition should work" but I really don't know

The module is GM part number 10482821 or 19180772

The AC Delco exchange part number is D1906 or D1918.

Cheers
