Actually, I stole some good ideas from several TV-shows, including Gas Monkey and CAR-SOS.
The woodwork on the radio panel and skislope actually is a walnut print plastic foil, covered in several layers of clear coat...(don't tell anybody....).
All the interior trims and the roof panel are covered with artificial leather. The roof panel is attached to the slide roof cassette with heavy duty Velcro strips. No sagging roof liner anymore ever again.

CAR-SOS is a British program, made for National Geographic Channel (and Channel 4).
Tim and Buzz "kidnap" run down vehicles from the owners without them knowing and restore them in a few weeks. Then they lure the owner to some kind of exhibition or show and present the car to them...

Some years ago, a SOCAL hot rod guy, Chip Foose starred in a show with a similar format. Some tired, incomplete old denizens returned looking fabulous. Original, no. But not way out. Color schemes and the application was a big part.
Counting Cars. A show based in Las Vegas does more "far out" work, but on occasion has done the kidnap thing and came up with a tamer version. Recently, a tired 57 T bird. Back as good as Henry made it. No "wild" touches. But, the two in house painters are magicians with unbounded imagination and the skill to make it real.

A couple of decades ago, My son and I did a project. A badly battered 73 Ford Ranchero in top line "Country Squire" trim. AKA faux "woodie".
As did Daim, we came upon a vinyl "shelf" paper that matched the Ford application perfectly. Result, part as delivered, and part as fixed. Some plastic parts still available. Back to looking almost as Henry did it.
It looked great. New red paint does a lot!!!
