Hi,
your XJ-6 is a XJ40.
This forum section is for XJ-6 from 1968 until 1987. ( Series 1 to Series 3 ).
then XJ-40 ( Series 4 ) started in 1988. Different body style, different engine.
Another difference is the XJ40 came with many digital components when the previous models were mostly analog.
your correct forum is the XJ40 forum. Enjoy you Jag !

Welcome aboard. Jaguar is definitely going to be more of a challenge than anything your cohorts are driving. My neighbor's son recently got a late 90-something Civic coupe. A wise choice, very practical. He'll be able to order new replacement parts online in seconds that you'll be scouring ebay for weeks to find good used ones. He'll be able to schedule a repair appointment tomorrow while you'll be next month. But his will be one of a dozen in his junior college student parking lot. Yours is one of a dozen in, well, probably whatever province you live in. Its the penalty we pay for wanting to be just a little bit different from everyone else. You'll need some patience and fortitude to drive an older model Jaguar, but just remember the quote by the Dos Equis most interesting man in the world "When I drive a car off the lot, its price increases in value."

There have been 7 generations of cars called XJ6, starting in 1968. As you'd expect, there have been lots of changes over the years. It's like a Ford F-150, I think they are on the 14th generation now. A truck from the late 40's shares nothing with one from today, except the name.

A final word before you go to the XJ40 forum for your model.
Even more confusing in the UK where the 1986-94 XJ40 was badged as XJ6. unlike yours with the Sovereign badge.
Many years since I had this one. My granddaughter is now 28.
I always preferred the twin headlamp version to the rectangular headlamp.
The single headlamp version was the usual in the USA and I didn't realise the twin headlamp was allowed in Canada.
Enjoy your first car and what may be one of the last opportunities to own and drive a fossil fuel Jaguar.
Please read the guidance for new members ( https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...ned-up-241802/ ) which answers many of the most frequent questions about getting started.
