Default jag engine in non jag car, FI to carb questions

Looking to put a 1987 jag xj6 engine into a 1950s chassis and want to lose the fuel injection. I believe the ignition can be wired on its own, is this true? As far as losing the FI I could make my own manifold to run some smaller carbs, say from a motorcycle, but are there earlier jag engine intake manifolds that fit these engines and are for carbs?
Most people swap out the jag engines, I want to do the opposite.

The inlet manifold from a series 2, or any earlier xk engined model, would fit, may need a bit of porting and benefit form it.
Twin SU's or Strombergs were standard fitment on these engines.
If you want to break the bank you could go for triple webers.
There's a company somewhere who fits bike carbs as an upgrade.
Try this company they may be able to help MossMotors.com - Restoration Parts And Accessories For British Cars

The ignition is fairly straightforward to rewire and would still retain the benefit of being electronic.

You could also upgrade to a Petronix or 123 ignition system.

What car are you fitting it in to?

yes.

As mentioned, just a bit of very easy re-wiring to the recipient car is all you'll need. More specifically, the ignition system and the fuel injection system are virtually independent from each other. The only tie-in is one wire....a trigger wire from the coil to the fuel injection ECU. Since you're dumping the F.I., that's of no concern.

Sounds like a lot of fun. On another forum, a fellow built a very
low woodie type wagon from scratch. He used a 4.2 Jaguar and
BW as propulsion. But, EFI or carb'd, I forgot.... We helped him
sort out some typical sensor issues. And, as I recall, David
Boger provided the engine and trans.

The wood work was fantastic. And, a quaint exhaust!!! One version got on to
18" Ford B wire spokers for ground clareance!!! Went well with the wood!!!

And, in the late 70's wifey and I went to a flea market. One of the vendors
was an independent jaguar service shop! off loading spares. Their shop truck
was an early 50's Ford, a retired RRway Express truck. Now powered by a 4.2.
Hood up, of course. It fit just right and the install was sanitary.

Thanks for the info, so any intake from a series II XJ6 will work? Will it work with the newer exhaust manifold or would I have to get that with the intake? (assuming they are separate castings, I have not looked at the engine close enough to see yet)

Unknown which body would get the engine yet, I have a few to choose from as well as possibly building an open engine car from scratch.

It's a cross flow engine. Intake on one side, exhaust out the other. Big twin overhead cam beast. It is a loooong and fairly tall lump of metal. Quite impressive really.

Yup, it was designed to look good. It met that criteria nicely. supposedly dreamed up by jaguar engineers during WWII in off hours.

A bit of an enigma though. Hemi cross flow head a beauty for air flow at higher RPM's.
Long stroke, not so good, but great for low end torque??? Why? One story is politics. Taxed on bore dimension?? So, they got the Litres from the stroke.

A look at the exhaust manifold will reveal a coupe of things. Not a bad shape atal for airflow. Will dress up nicely, ceramic or other wise. and, two outlets at the center, close together. Starters for a neat true dual exhaust.

As already stated, the ignition system is pretty good and can be used in stand alone mode.

The BW transmissions are ancient tech, but quite serviceable. Or, grafdt on a four or five speed. Quite feasible.

It would look great in a bonnettless 30's chassis and open car body. I Ahvce a vague recollection of seeing one or two???

wow I cant believe I forgot about the exhaust being on the other side, I should of remembered that.
I plan on making an adapter to go to a TH350 or 700r4 trans, not going to bother with the BW.
I agree on the engine being impressive looking, which is why I would use it in the first place. Not a big HP engine but it just looks great.
Now to start looking for an intake!
