Hello, scratching my head a little here. Recently purchased a Jaguar Xj6 1997 automatic, had it for about 2 weeks & yesterday randomly I went to engage into drive and it just revved and didn’t move anywhere, so I tried 2 & 3 and still didn’t budge, when I went into reverse it still reverses with full power so to speak. Would this be a gearbox problem or would it be a case of changing the fluids. Thanks in advance.

 

Check where the change cable at the gearbox end, there might be something loose

 

A 1997 car will be one of the X300 series 1994-1997, so better to post in that forum as the gearbox is different. However, try checking the cable where it goes into the gearbox, there might be something loose.

 

it sounds like the transmission or some solenoidcin the transmission, but this forum is for the early XJ-6 from 1968 up to 1987 and yours is a 1997, also known as the X300 and X350.
