Hi Shalva

The VIN indicates your car is a 1996 XJ6 so it comes within the XJ40 model series. You would be better posting in that forum.

There were long and short wheelbase cars in the XJ40 series, but the XJs before this were all "long wheel base" since about 1972 when Jaguar dropped the shorter wheelbase models.

Fraser, I think you meant to say "X300", not XJ40

Jaguar played a silly game for a long time.

Without going into excrutiating detail....

Series II: one wheelbase for almost the entire production run; and few LWB cars towards the end.

Ser II: Mostly short wheelbase in the beginning, some LWB, then SWB dropped and replaced by LWB

Ser III: all cars on the same wheel base.

XJ40: as far as I know the majority of cars were on the same wheelbase with a few LWB cars towards the end. "Majestics", perhaps. I dunno.

X300: SWB only on introduction, LWB offered after about a year or so

X308: All on the same wheelbase? I dunno. But I think I've seen some "XJ8L" designations...thus the implicaton that there was also a SWB car?

Cheers

For the X300 series ...

Short wheelbase = 113.0 inches
Long wheelbase = 117.9 inches

Hi Doug
Yes, you're right, the X300 was 1995-1997. A very short production run for such a superb car; the X308 that came after must have cost Jaguar the US defence budget in warranty claims ! That X308 V8 engine was terrible in the first few years. I remember seeing about three in a shop near a tyre place I used to go to when they were about 2 years in production, and one of the owners was there who had just been told his engine was "cream-crackered". (Cockney rhyming slang for "knackered", if you didn't know)
