Default Jaguar XJC - XJ coupe buying advice

I was wondering if you good folks could offer some advice. As you will have guessed by my username I am after a Jaguar Xj6C.

I have come across some lovely examples, but I am on a budget. Admittedly you do get what you pay for, but if I can't find a decent useable example I would be happy with either a very solid shell or a fixer upper that was also good body wise that I could restore to my taste as budget allowed.

I came across this 100,000 mile XJ12 on a european site.

The car is based in Italy and left hand drive. I spoke to the vendor. He seemed like a good guy. Told me that it was only really capable for spares, but that the body was very solid. This got me thinking about buying it and using it as a good foundation for a donor car. It's left hand drive and that's totally cool with me, because this is what I'm after anyway.

I asked for photos and information on the following.

- More photos of the area in front of the rear wheels which has the mount for the rear trailing arm.
- The sills on both sides and the floor pans.
- Also does the car come with its side glass and does it come with any other parts?

I will also have to factor in how much it would cost me to have it delivered from Italy to the U.K, which might just mean game over right there. Still...

Does anyone have any thoughts? It's far from a complete car and I realise it's going to be a long restoration, but is it worth a punt? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If your able to get an xjc. .. get it! Especially If the body is rust free. A xj6 can be had for very little and would be a good donor. Or spend the $ on a clean nice xjc

I was thinking the same thing. Use it as a good foundation for a slow restoration and use a regular XJ6 that is beyond repair as a donor.

I have a series II XJ, not a coupe (yet..) but I understand that one place to look for rust specifically is at the body seam below the rear side glass. Apparently the side windows never sealed that well so it gets crunchy.

These xjc's have been popping up with alarming frequency here in Ireland for the last few months. Check out donedeal.ie and keep an eye on the vintage classic car section. A lovely red, vinyl roofed Daimler one needing some minor finishing after a resto went for around 3,000 euro last week. I just missed it. The shipping would be minimal and i could check one out for you if its not too far away. Plus most here are originally uk cars so the original reg could be reused if repatriated.

Sorry for the late replies fellas. JJD Thanks I really appreciate the offer. This sounds strange but I'm specifically after a Left Hand Drive. I don't plan on staying in the U.K forever and it would be great to take my cars along with me. I'll definitely check out the site that you mentioned though - I've heard its a treasure find before.

The vendor hasn't got back to my email and I can't get hold him on the phone. I'll keep everyone posted if I do end up buying it - alternatively if anyone knows any solid left hookers please pass along some details.
