Default Job Security

As I was tearing up the Passing Lanes last night the OIL warning light came on!
I wasn't TOO worried (although concerned) as the GAUGE still indicated 40 psi. But it was quite unsettling!
I stuck her in N and shut off ignition (careful NOT to lock the steering wheel) and coasted to a stop.
Dip stick said FULL. I'm a bit OCD about checking fluid levels anyway so I wasn't surprised at this but it did interrupt a Very good run to blow cobwebs out.

This morning, investigation reveals the failed component.

I'm thinking this is the backup for a generation not accustomed to checking gauges.
It's an easy Temporary fix, I just pulled its wire off, and Shazaam, the Idiot light went out.
I don't think it will be hard to replace either. Looks like it merely unscrews from that T-fitting out of the main galley.

For Sure, owning a Classic Jaguar is Job Security.
You'll Never be bored as there's Always something to keep you on your toes and interested.
I luv it!

As the car/engine is so old and most parts houses only carry stuff for about 10 years, I wondered how many places I would have to try before I gave up and did a Google Search.

I only had to try twice and found one! The trusty NAPA store had one in stock! (That's why I do like NAPA!)

Part #ECH OP6619 (that's an o for Oil Pressure not a zero)

Complete with factory thread sealant.

The new one is longer than the old one, but the wrench flats are a Whole lot easier to deal with.

And there it is in its proper place. It threaded right in with no interference with the distributor cap or anything.
She should be good for another 40+ years; or until the Next thing elbows its way to the head of the line!!

Thank you for your kind attention.
ONWARD!!

Nice! I just did that job with what looks like a very similar AC Delco part - was able to get mine off of Amazon with next day shipping. Definitely agree that the socket-compatible design got the new one on less awkwardly than the old one came off!

Amazon was my next stop if NAPA didn't have one.
