Leaking Rack & Pinion

Leaking Rack & Pinion
I have a 1987 XJ6. The car is leaking power steering fluid on the rack and pinion area. I have pin-pointed the spot. It is leaking where the steering wheel shaft comes down and meets the rack and pinion area. There is a metal washer with a rubber seal. This is the area. My question is: What is the best or easiest way to change out this metal seal? I sorry I am not using the correct mechanical words.
Thanks in advance.

rack leak
The best way would be to remove the rack and replace it as a unit, some of the other seals may soon fail too. If you just want to change the rack tower seal you will have good luck finding just that seal on the internet. There are complete rack seal kits that cost about 1/3 of what a remanufactured rack costs and the labor ro remove and replace is the same so one could argue it would be prudent to replace the whole thing. Replacing the rack tower seal while the rack is in the car is very difficult and not recommend because debris could get in the rack while the tower was exposed.

White jaguar: where did you end up purchasing your rebuilt steering rack? I keep debating weather to rebuild mine ( it is already out of the car, as well as the entire engine) or do I just rebuilt it myself. I know one of the seals is a pain to get correctly while the others are pretty good.
