speaking of lumped values, around 5-6yrs back in Daytona Fl. a 1982 XJ sedan came up for sale asking $1500. dollars, no sale, finally sold 1 year later!
it had a 454 BBC chevy in it,T 400 trans, car was in fair condition, minimal rust, ran great!
fast as Heil, but no takers , anybody have idea why?

If I recall them, they were an enigma. Lottsa CI's for good torque and work well in trucks.
But, smogged down to puny. Appetite increased????
Shy no sale. Limited market. And, as the "dumb kid' remarked when I took my lump in for SMOG. A "Frankenstein car". Not a good start. got worse... I went to another shop. it was admired there. Smarter and a just a bit older guys and better business men....

Just a guess, as there could be a hundred reasons, but "fair condition and minimal rust" is not exactly a ringing endorsement.

My observation over the years is that lumped Jags sell well if the car is in great shape AND the conversion is sanitary. Some cars are a little crummy to begin with and some conversions (especially older ones) are tacky, if you know what I mean...and I'm sure you do. We've all seen the bad examples!
Cheers

good response; altho i have yet to see a conversion that is a #9-10 rating!
many cars with LS conversions(not jags) are far better in workmanship and engineering!
and i do know a 454 chevy would outrun a 350 chevy, in comparable vehicles,(thats if performance was important).
lotsa chrome and polished aluminum, plus encredable engine & bay paint work !
