Mark 2 overdrive gearbox in an a series 1?
Happy Saturday everyone,
I couldn't quite find the anwer to my question. Has anyone ever mounted a manual overdrive gearbox from a Mark 2 to an XJ6? Would it be a worthwhile endeavor? I am beginning research into manual transmission options, it would be nice to keep it Jaguar if possible. A very good friend has the box and currently has no use for it.
Safe Motoring,
Jon

I would not go this route. Some time back I looked at buying a complete car (Series 1) with a manual gearbox. Turned out the gearbox was from a Mk2 and the conversion was not done well due to the many differences and lack of correct parts. I passed on that and eventually purchased a 1970 series 1 with a manual o/d box. The car is rusty but the engine, gearbox and clutch are all fine. When I eventually get around to converting my 1973 model, I have all the correct parts so the conversion will be as factory. I also have a 3.31 LSD rear end, which according to some, is the best ratio for this gearbox.
