Default My 1986 XJ6 III series

I had this Jaguar for years now. The only really good thing this has going for it is the Engine, i believe it has about 63K miles on it, i drove it home but that's about it. The alternator is bad and someone actually put putty on a hole in the exhaust pipe. The body of the frame has pockets of rust near the wheel and the interior is pretty rough shape as well. I have not looked underneath the car yet but i suspect the car has seen better days. My question is what should i do with it? When is a vehicle too far from the point of salvation? I think the mice got in it too this winter so i suspect even more damage is done to it.. I think the junkyard may give me around 320-400$ for it. Sell spare parts on ebay? I suppose i really should pull it out and put it on the lift to inspect it more. I just feel like the longer it sits the worse shape it will be in. Either way here are a few pictures

Valuable source of parts for some one if it can't be resurrected.

From your description, I'd say it like a very nice parts car. If it were just the cosmetics or just the interior or just the electrical or just the body, maybe it would be a good candidate for restoration but the problems on every one of these fronts seems too far gone to make it a good restoration candidate. You could either part it out reasonably valuably or fix the biggest things and be upside down on a rough looking cheap driver. Alternatively, you could find a different XJ6 with better interior/exterior and a blown/missing/failing motor and swap them before scrapping it or parting it out.

Break it for parts, I'd say, if the cost and effort of getting it back into running order is too much. I have to say, though, the pic shows a pretty nice looking car; from the front anyway !

EBay sounds like a good choice if you have the patience and energy. Shame to just let it sit.
Good luck, jim

The vegetation around and beneath the car causes rust! ...not good, I'd at least move it and clean it up to see what you have.

Buy a better one and use this for parts.
