The "BW" indicates the car has an automatic transmission (signifying "Borg Warner" and used even on those cars that used a General Motors automatic transmission)
The paint/color code is not incorporated into the serial number/VIN. There's probably a separate information plate with paint and trim info.
That's all I can offer up, sorry.
Cheers

some older cars have the body and trim color codes stamped on a plate under the rear bumper, but that is not always the case. You could contact the JDHT (Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust) and for a fee they will trace the VIN, original trim colors, and provide a Heritage Certificate with all the factory info. available on that car. Jimmy,
Here's the Daimler Series II Chassis Number ranges (Jaguar began using the Worldwide VIN Code system in May 1978):
Jaguar did attach plates with additional information for different markets but the factory Chassis Number on any Series II should be within the ranges shown. The Jaguar Series II followed a similar pattern with different letters in the second position.
Whether seat belts were fitted or not depends on the original market specification of the vehicle. For instance, mainland Europe required front seat belts to be fitted on new vehicles from 1965 but the UK didn't introduce this requirement until 1968. Introduction dates varied around the World.
