A most interesting car. All I can add is two things:
1. The shifter cable may have parted. Usuall at the point that the housing is clamed down under at the transmsion lever. Mine did that. Luckily in my drive during the engine swap.
2. t is not a car built for the US or Canadian marker. Other than the RHD, note the 7" outter lamps.
3. I suspect that at one time it was a grey market import.

The shifter leaver moves just fine and moves the linkage at the transmition. Still wondering if the engine needs to be running as the oil pump is built into the transmittion??? I am a week or so away from starting the engine.

I have a new question.
Getting ready to start engine and have installed new coolant hoses. I am having difficulty figuring out the expansion tank hoses. My expansion tank has two inlets and the engine fill has two connections, Rad has one small.. I am unsure of where the second expansion tank connection goes. I have three manuals for both the series 1 and 2 cars but none show the hose configuration.
I have applied for the Jaguar certificate and will share once I get it. Thanks for all your help.

James, thanks for coming back with this information. But I wonder just what it is you have paid for. To me the certificate is saying that the chassis number 1L68998 BW belongs to a series1 car manufactured in September 1972. Yet the original car is a series2 car?! How does a 2 just turn into a 1 by someone stamping a different number on the inner guard? You should note that from June 1972 all series 1 chassis numbers were located on the RH tab for the engine brace as in the picture I posted. I still believe that your car which appears from the photos to have a single bulkhead is a series 2 - with tampered numbers

The chassis number 1L68998 is a series 1 ( as stamped on pillar and inner fender) as well as the engine and transmission (original). The main body of the car is also a series 1. The front end , firewall, RHD steering and dash is a series 2. I have spent many hours trying to sort this out (and lots of scotch). I now have everything working but the BW12 which I posted a question on looking for help.
