New to the Forum: My 1987 XJ6 VDP 16,000

Bought this car a few years back at around 15,000 miles and now it has around 16,868 on it. This Jaguar is my second one after a rough go around with an 84 XJ6. I learned a ton from the 1st car and always said if I was going to buy again it would be the best I could afford. I had been chasing this car down for 3 years. The buyer finally caved and we settled on a sale price. The seller was very meticulous fella, never took it out in the rain and only drove it once a week to golf outings.
This car is in very, very nice shape inside and out. In the trunk was a Kent but these are the wheels the car was sold with. It also came with the hood and side molding installed at the dealer ( would love to take them off but the color underneath is a little darker ). Wonder if a buff could make it look all the same? It came from A&L motors here in Western PA and has all the paper work along with stereo tape and codes all manuals and green folder along with sunroof key. The original Pirelli's are still on the car and not cracked terribly. It also has the special floor mates that are ( lambs wool I thnk )
I am looking to do suspension work and get another set of rims. Could use help in those areas if anyone is close to Pittsburgh or I could talk with. What do you all think of her?

1) Where would you say for ball joints and bushings I could get a kit? I know the ball joints rubber gaskets are bad and dry rotted anything else I should do while I am in there? Should I go with rubber or poly?
2) When I hit a bump in the road it sounds like a pinball bumper like a rattle sound. I am almost positive its the bad ball joints ( I can see the gaskets are torn ) but if these have gone bad from the rubber deterioration I think what else could be going on?
3) I put a stakedown kit on my 84 and I was thinking I should put one on this car also, would you agree?
Something else I noticed: When I 1st got the car I thought the wood must have been different in the VDP because it was so much darker. It was then explained to me that they all started out dark and like my 1st they fade because of the sun.

I always buy all my new stuff from Coventry West.... They always know the deal with my car, and friendly folk down there in GA... Got my lower ball joints from them...
They say the poly bushings really make a difference... I cheated a little when I replaced mine. I didn't have the tool to push out the old bearings, but I had a car here that had a new rack... So I just replaced the whole kit and kabootle on my car....
Also have a look at the shock bushings for #2... They are inside the engine compartment.. (you can see the top of the shock)... When they go they make a heck of a sound...
I didn't really get a noise when my ball joints were bad, only a bad sway going down the road...
Good news about that is if the shock bushings are bad, you can get generic parts in the AutoZone "Help" dept for about $3... Interchange info on JagLovers....
Probably even with the low miles you'll have a few bugs to work out... Hoses, bushings and fuel lines are worth checking out...
Stake down kit - for sure....
The car looks awesome... Tell you what, I'll trade you 15 parts cars and a driver for it right now...

That is one very nice looking car. I can't see a mark on it, beautiful.
I'd keep the side mouldings at this point, they are not offensive and certainly protect the car from trolley dings.
Angora over mats, someone loved that car a lot.
@David, I'll raise you, and chuck in a lawnmower as well. LOL

Hmm... I never knew that. When I purchased the car the guy said it had an extra set of mats and I was thinking ok auto parts store mats. When I saw them I wondered if at 1st they were factory, they fit the foot wells perfectly. I keep them in the trunk because I can't see putting my feet on them. Very plush and soft.
