New trunk upholstery

New trunk upholstery
Am in the process of updating all the interior before a bare metal repainting. Just got the car back from the upholstery guy... interior is done but only the drivers seat is installed. Trunk now does not have the Jaguar straps for holding the "tools".. hence my questions on using the Compact spare and the foam container
that fits with the tire that holds the jack and other tools.
My trunk are in the rear section is full of relays, electric fuel pump and (6) six port fuel tank changeover valve and pre filters... plus soon to have electric
antenna added.
Want to leave all out of the interior so overspray and dust from the paint shop does not mess things up.
Thought I would share the trunk interior and the new vinyl cover for the trunk lid. The side pieces have "grooves - done by heat" that match the door panels...

I can see why you don't want any tire tools and stuff cluttering up that Lovely space!
I did this to my old '72 S1, but only used the stock cover from a '85 VDP.. it was just painted black. Thin plywood would work as well...if you cover it with something.

nice job!
the Vanden Plas have the same trunk lid covering, but slightly different in the Series 3, with a lot more screws than 4.
the material is 1/8" chipboard, slightly flexible because the lid has a slight concave curve (or is it convex?).
I covered mine in heavy duty black school bus seat vinyl, resistant to nicks and scratches. I went further and finished the painted ugly metal pan face with the same vinyl. Looks a lot better.

I can't think of the name that Jaguar used for "yellow". I think there at least two. A light one that was actually quite pleasing. At first, I thought it referred to a "pink'. Not so pleasing???? Something to do with flower blossoms.
The other was mustard looking. Apologies, but ugh!
That is an issue when repainting in a totally different color.

Indeed, that is one fine boot. How are you going to use it???
Boot lid trim:
Mine has no signs of ever having any upholstery or carpet. Just
quite pristine Grosvenor Brown as it came from Brownslane.
I like it.
The carpet and sides are upholstered in fur, again, original. Nice condition. I did make a rubber pad for the floor. More stuff in it than I need. But, it is what it is.
The jack is also almost pristine. Stashed in it's vinyl like pouch on the
driver side boot wall.
Only slight issue s the spare cover. It rides a tad high. Fat spare!

Just use it in normal manner
Carl
No special use plans... will carry whatever is needed. Just wanted to get rid of indoor/outdoor carpeting. It was neat before but not as good as it is now. Car cover in the right rear will be used to cover the car at the body shop when repainting is going on.. front and rear windows will be out of the car... it will be discarded after that tough use. Tools and fluids are not needed now that the car is "mature".
Picture shows the "before".. remote CD player is long gone since the install of a modern radio with USB port and Bluetooth - it has a single CD.

Want it nice in case I decide to kidnap someone
Has to be "comfortable"... really - just wanted it to look as nice as the cars interior.
PT Cruiser front seats, with electric up and down, heated front seats, arm rests that lift up/down in the center, lumbar supports and head rests that actually work! Plus a removable storage tray under the drivers seat.
New headliner, Gentex auto dimming rear view mirror with compass and outside temp located on the window like modern cars! Real leather covered sun visors (not S3 plastic bags).
Carpet new throughout, with Jaguar pins to hold mats in place... front seat belts mounted in the "B" pillars like a S3. Rear package tray has sealed up
entry so flow through ventilation does not take hot/cold air out of the cabin.
Sound proofing throughout, under the headliner, in the doors and from the front of the firewall to the package tray. Intermittent wipers for our seldom seen rain in So Cal. All interior bulbs now LED's for better visibility at night.
Right now only the drivers seat installed to protect the new stuff from the evils at the body shop. Hope to get new bare metal paint done the first of the year...

Heh heh, I agree but, FWIW, what we have is already an upgrade. The early Series III cars had a very low-brow vinyl covering on the trunk floor and side walls....no carpeting at all!
Incidentally, that panel on the underside of the trunk lid was standard fit on all Series IIIs in the early days. Not sure when the change was made to use it only on the upper-line variants
Cheers

True, it is a base line car. Never looked.
I removed the bonnet liner early on. awful thing, like a moth eaten bear rug. Paint not shiny there, didn't respond to polish. I've a plan.
When it warms up, though, brrrr.....
It's colder in the garage than outside. frost on the pumpkin at 5 this AM!!!
Never did fare all that well in cold, but it seems colder this year!!!!
Or just my 86 years!!!
