Yeah, some keep telling me that, but I DON'T LIKE THEM! I think they make the car look all bug eyed and weird.
And I don't much care if it was "designed" to be that way. Wasn't designed to last 42 years and have a V-8 either. Nor was it designed for Teardrop rims.

However, if others like 7 inch lights, far be it from me to try to dissuade them or criticize their choice.
That's what Personal Preference is all about.

I'm firmly in the 7" group, but its interesting, I'm from the UK so that's what I remember. I never understood why the US XJS had 4 headlights instead of the European 2 although now I've been here 18 years there starting to look right.

But I truly agree its all about personal choice

Wow... thread hijacked! For me I think the Forum model has run its course so I wont be updating any of my threads here any more. I will be making FB pages and Youtube Channels for all my projects and the best is yet to come. Hope to see you there.

I'm sorry
I don't do FB, and I do enjoy your projects, as I'll Never be in a position to do the stuff you post here.
I've learned a great deal from watching them.

And I also appreciate your help getting me back online in here. This wasn't the only site giving me trouble but it was the worst one.

I hope you reconsider leaving.

I always thought that the US spec quad headlamps looked much better than the European ones. Not so much that I forked out to change them on my own one though.:-)

Default Oh no, not Fb, ffs.

I'm with LnrB; I refuse to run with the herd by using Fb, and although an experienced engineer with a few conversions to my name, have also been impressed by this one. Very well done, and don't abandon the site in favour of the place populated by morons.

I don't think your thread was hijacked. I just re-read this thread from post#1 and throughout its all about modifications that you have done to your car.
You, in post #44, posted about lowering the front suspension, using spacers and so forth.
I posted about my experiences with my front suspension and posted the results, using my headlamps as the height reference and a comment about 7" headlamps.
If the purpose of your posts was to expound only about your ability, experience and results, then it surely was hijacked.
If the purpose of your post was to share your experiences with fellow members, then it surely was not hijacked.
If I may speak for all, we respect the idea of a thread staying on the same topic without variation, but as with all forums things unwittingly move across the spectrum.
I therefore, apologize on behalf of all forum members, who unwittingly interjected with stuff you deem not pertinent your thread.
Having said that, I personally have learnt a lot just reading your threads and hope that your input will continue in the future.

I'm not leaving, just no longer updating the 3+ build threads I have. LnrB and sanchez, I appreciate your genuine responses and I see it the same way.

I just want to let you all know development will continue on and be detailed other places where I can better manage the progress. The main issue I have with the forums in not being able to change or delete older things. I do lots of experimenting and sometimes things dont work out as I planned months later. With Forums there is no way to edit or delete things that may be dangerous or mis-understood. Yes, it's possible to post a new reply but it's often 10 pages later and wont be seen in a relevant way. It's for this reason I have NOT posted about 3/4's of the work I've done out of fear of no-recourse. Even twitter allows you to delete bad tweets. Forums dont allow you to delete or change even bad things after a limited time.

The hijacking or non-hijacking is part of Forum life which I have participated in for 15 years and is somewhat expected. My comment about Hijacking wasn't the issue, just an observation and perhaps a tipping point that was a long time coming.

In the Early 90's I participated in the BBS', anyone remember FidoNet or WildCat? Ansi "graphics" and your first 9600 Baud Modem?

In the 2000's with the advent of reliable email there was, Email lists and Journals, and Digests to Participate in.

Then in the 2010's Forums really took off.

I suspect FB and Instagram will be past it at some point too.

FOR ME SPECIFICALLY, As we approach 2020 and I take my projects to the next level.... I think the Forum model is passe just like the email digests and BBS systems. So I'm moving on again. BBS's and Email Digest's do still Exist and operate and Forums shall for a long time too.

ISO...

I'll mis that build thread, sorry to see it move. Alas, I don't do Facebook or any of the others. Just my way.

And as a thread hjhacker, guilty as charged. I'll defer a defens to another time or place, if at all. ;:

I enjoy this forum and all the folks here, a lot....

Fear of Facebook is overrated. Creat an account using a Nick name and a birthday that isn't yours but you will remember. Post a picture of your car or your dog and enjoy the good stuff out there. And YouTube is just a simple click away. Watch Jay Leno's garage videos about Jaguars and you will be a fan. Just search for Jaguar XJ6 and relax.

Unless your dog is in the witness protection program you are risking nothing.

It's not a fear of Facebook, at least not for me. It's after having been on it for years and having found absolutely nothing positive comes from it. Not once did I leave FB and feel better about myself, others, or life in general. Deleted my account earlier this year and haven't missed it a bit.

ICS - I'll definitely miss your build threads. I have a ton of respect for your abilities and forward thinking. We all learn a lot from your experiences and I'm very grateful that you take the time to share it with us.

In the end, I understand why you are frustrated with trying to keep your build threads going. You could always go back and edit earlier posts on experiments that ultimately didn't work out...just a thought.

Either way, I'm glad to know you'll still be around to comment on threads.

I for one am looking forward to more XJ6 videos on YouTube. There simply aren't enough. I enjoy watching videos about cars so much more than looking at a pic. I'll look forward to seeing the 3/4 of the icsamerica build!

I understand your point of view but to me, the most valuable posts/experiments usually are the failures b/c I learn more from what went wrong than from the 'A leads to B sans any hitches'-posts.

On an unrelated note: I think you missed the FB/IG train...it was novel 10 years ago...now it's just a narcissistic vent but I wish you best of luck nonetheless. Looking forward to your YouTube videos.

I think you are right about that to a point, no doubt we are at an inflection point with FB/IG and cars in general. I've come to see FB/IG not as social media but social manipulation platforms. Fact of the matter is good quality video / photos takes time and money, and I dont have the time and have better uses for the the money. We shall see how this all plays out but I know one thing for sure... after my trip to Lime Rock and to some local shows, the best stuff I've seen and experienced was not on line but on the ground.

The 2015 coupe recently got a slightly bigger cam and a T56 6 speed manual transmission. Anyone interested in following this coupe or the 2017 Coupe can see it on FB

HMMMM

I've been playing on my VIZIO Smart TV. You Tube almost completely !!!
Vintage airplanes enthrall me.

I'll check first via the link and then by search perhaps.

I'm still on post cataract surgery "light duty". No messing with the Jaguar or my wood play. AKA making saw dust. Another rustic Solar powered LED lamp atop a rustic pole or sconce...

The 2015 Coupe has gone as far as it can go in it's current configuration, New engine in the works. The ol' SBC had lots of track kill.... Supercharged LS Corvette , D-Type Racer and many more...
