Suddenly, the horn on my 1985 XJ6 is not working . I know the horns, relay and fuses are good. Here’s where I need further help!
Thanks!

Suddenly, the horn on my 1985 XJ6 is not working . I know the horns, relay and fuses are good. Here’s where I need further help!
- If I connect a ground to the purple/black wire or it’s metal grounding tab on the right side of the steering column, I have horns.
- If I run a wire from the purple/black wire to the beige contact rod under the horn pad, I have horns.
- If I run a wire from the purple/black wire (or its tab) to the contact tab just above it, the horns work.
- If I run a wire from the horn pad beige contact to the contact tab above the purple/blk pad, I have NO horns. Again, if I touch the two pads, I have horns.
- Of course, when reinstalling the horn pad, I have no horns.
Thanks!
Richard

if the fuse, relay, horns, are ok, the horn push might not be making contact with the cream color plastic tube with a brass contact screwed inside the splined shaft.
to test: remove the horn push, take a wire and touch one end of it to the contact at the column shaft, the other end to the horn contact (ignition switch in Accessory position). If it sounds, the horn push contact is too far from the column contact when you press it.
to adjust column contact: unscrew the large plastic nut by 1/4" inch at a time and test.
