I wouldn't do it. You will loose dampener resolution too as the spring will travel less and so will the shock.
I have the same issue and I'm considering these.

Ditto:
It sure is a nice rendering. Me too!!!
Yes, indeed, laying the "coil overs" down will lessen the effect of not only the spring rate, but the dampening. Softer ride and perhaps not as steady.
Carrera shocks once were a popular source for "coil overs". The company offered a free consultation on weights angles and rates. Objective, of course, sell their product.
Still there and still willing, I dunno.

I actually got that from a stranger on another forum, they posted it on my thread and i scooped it up thinking that some here might need it.
On to the actual topic at hand: I think that the u joints will be fine (hoping so) I replaced them with all new moog parts and had all the bearings replaced in the hub and dif.
I wont be changing the mounts just looking at getting new springs. can someone fill me in on these specs of the stock springs:
overall height:
inside diameter:
outside diameter
coils:
coil thickness:
spring rate:
Im probably going to have custom ones made up and if its a reasonable price ill offer to be the middle man for anyone else here who would want some. Once I have the stock specs I can then make adjustments and then order them.

I was in the pay line to check out at the local "drug store". A fellow circa my vintage was also in line. My cart had a 12 pack of Beck's. He had a six pack Of Blue Ribbon.
Asked Beck's was good. I answered in the affirmative. he described his visit to the Pabst mansion and brewery and was impressed. Not only with the brew, but the craftsmanship in the Pabst home.
Yahoo, obstacle in parting a coil pack connector in Daughters Passat overcome. The six tentacle monster is on the bench. And three plugs pout on one bank. Not easy, buried in deep wells ala Chrysler Hemi. Shoulders sore, enough. So, before I mess something up, recess til tomorrow.
Lunch time, anyway. And nowadays, I work half days. or do I ? up at 5 or so and go til noon or so???

There is 2.75 inch from the bottom on the spring purch to the center of the lower through bolt. I'm going to section the lower spring retainer and extend the step 1 inch which should lower the car 1.5 inches. Stay tuned. Gonna take some time as I have to cut the lower spring perch on a lathe.

i may have an idea for the rear springs. will update as things progress.
Also next week starts the awesome process of installing the painless wiring harness and setting up the brakes...
should be a fun couple weeks
side note:
can i jack up the spring perch in the front, remove the two bolts that hold the upper control arms to the sub frame and remove the spring that way?
