Power Window Fuse Location?
#21
No luck yet finding the power to the windows.
I can steal power from the door locks to cheat but that is not a correct fix and could easily send me deeper into the bowels of electrical hell. I would rather be without windows.
The car is going back to it's owner in a week regardless of status to be tucked away for the winter. We have a little time.

I found that stinker on the 1977 XJ12L
It is under the driver's dash above the fuses
There are two thermal cut outs. One is for the door locks one is for windows.
The door lock breaker is pretty easy to see. The window breaker is mounted on the top of the relay/breaker plate but the electrical terminals are visible and you can pull the two wires off and put a fuse link in there for easier access next time.
If you want to keep it original part number is 38955. Assuming the dash face would have to be pulled away to access breaker fasteners.
Several pictures below. Maybe too many but I am pleased right now.
Note: Wires are removed from breakers.
Factory diagram
General location
Door lock Breaker (Thermal cut out switch)
Window breaker (hard to see but you can just make out the terminals)
New breaker

Many thanks to John at Welsh Enterprises, Steubenville, OH for e-mailing me the diagram.
Several ignition and fuel related parts from them are on this car.

Windows
Last fall when Nix was Finally on the road again after nearly a year's layup, everything worked Very well except for windows and central locking.
I can do without central locking although it would be nice if it worked, especially as it worked when I got the car. But I digress;
I have just spent today tearing up my car in search of the elusive window relay mentioned above. I had to remove the crash roll and left demister box so I could actually touch the thing and jump the wires on the relay for proper testing. Nada. So I had to put it all back together, neatening up the rats nest of other wires while I was at it.
I could say it was a complete waste of time except that I now know the relay isn't at fault and I can use my time and energy looking elsewhere.
Husband has offered to help me trace wires back from wherever it's hot and find the fault. He understands the ancient hieroglyphics of wiring diagrams so I'll take him up on it.
But not this week.
I'm given to understand it's Drive Your British Car Week and I intend to participate to the full.
