Do you have a link or further info on the Toyota tranny swap? I've seen those available for Triumphs, but not Jags. I am aware of kits by the Driven Man, The Driven Man - Jaguar, Mopar, Ford, GM, Other British Brands - Specialty Performance Parts & Accessories that will put Tremec manual trannys in, but they are not cheap.

Also, you earlier mentioned a 5 or 6 speed auto. I am aware of a 4 speed by John's Cars, Jaguar conversions, swaps, parts, service and advice - from John's Cars in Dallas. where you can put in a T700 that has an OD gear, but no 5 or 6 speeds. Pricing is a little lower. Same thing, if you have more info, please post.

I agree the 3 speed tranny is not the best part of these cars.

Series 3 did not come with a manual option in the US, not sure about 1 and 2 but if they did the numbers would've been extremely small. I've come across those places before as well but the kits are quite pricey and that's before factoring in shipping halfway around the world. I might just try and piece it together myself, like this guy did, using a Getrag trans from a BMW. 1983 XJ6 5 Speed

I'm a big fan of the XK engine and ultimately I would like to pair the 5sp manual swap with internal head work and either AJ6 Engineering's intake manifold/airflowmeter/high flow exhaust or triple webers and a high flow exhaust. Turn it into just a little bit of a sport's sedan.

I'm on exactly the same page as you vwtech, I love the origianl engine, just no love for the 3 speed autobox. I could go either manual or auto. I don't mind the auto in this car as it's a big 4 door and suits the personality of the car, but I would like something more efficient. I also want to do some of the same light tuning you mention to help the car fulfill the sporting character a bit more.

Just checked the link. By chance I live fairly close to the shop this guy works at. In fact, when I first got my car, and was less familar with Jags, they did some good work on my car. Some pretty cool info there. (wonder if he'd do another conversion...)

I need to drop him an email and see if he can reproduce the bell housing adapter and the driveshaft adapter. I'll make it work from there.

Interesting. I need to look into this mod. A manual trans would be cool in my project!

I started my LOT1/4L60E installation into my 83 XJ6. It wasn't easy. Lots of pitfalls, some by me and some by others. Finaly passed CA stiff smog regs in 2006. Easy dependable cruising thereafter. Plenty of power and is probably far faster than i care to drive it. Electric fans and water pump work fine behind a big four row brass radiator.
Dual exhaust with twin cats and balance tube into the Jaguar mufflers and glass pack resonators. No truck sound, just a nice motor boat type burble.

Were I to do another, I'd go LS. Not likely, I am a bit log in the tooth for those projects.

My DOHC was OK, but succombed to CA's Central Valley heat.

Sorry for my ignorance, but what's an LOT1? Also, do you have any pictures you could share?

Thanks,

Eric
