Realistic Mileage for 85 XJ-6
I have driven our new...85 Jag 6 cyl 4.2 liter, for about 2 months, and it seems the gas mileage hasn't been as expected. I was thinking it would be near 20 mpg, but it seems closer to 15...Is this realistic or due I need to dig a little deeper? I have been using corn based 10 % ethanol blend lately, and the computer is showing less performance...but I wasn't paying as much attention the first month before the ethanol blend....
What is the expected mpg of this car new and used?
Thanks

RE: Realistic Mileage for 85 XJ-6
that's about right for city driving, and ethanol is not exactly blessed with high mpg properties. You can use 87 octane and be fine. Also don't rely totally on those "trip computer" readings, those numbers are mostly "averages", not 100% accurate.
There are three specific items you can replace in the 1985 tosomewhat improve mileage, but they cost money so it's a balancing act between expenses and expected savings.
