Default rear end ratio question..

I have been told on several occasions that my car did not come with a limited slip dif, however it could have been swapped in by a PO, which is quite possible due to the mods i found inside the motor, nothing major just some port matching, etc, but when i tried to put my car on a flat bed, i couldn't climb the ramps as it they were damp, and both rear wheels were spinning and car was sliding sideways!!!! The car doesn't have enough oomph to actually spin the wheels from a standing takeoff, but has enough grunt that you can hear the tires complaining!!!! My question is being as car will be in air on Saturday while i replace bear brake pads, is there a tag or something on the pumpkin that will tell me if is been swapped and maybe what ratio is in there???

Thanks as always

Darren

Default Yes, should be one or two tags

One says BP-L (for Power Loc) and the other the "ratio" like 45/11 = 4:09

It has been too many years now, but my S1 2:88 Locker has three brass colored tags?

Your both rear wheel spining / car sideways experience suggest it has a power lock diff. Look for the tag as previously stated but they can be difficult to find read from road grime and sometimes rebuilders forget to put the tag back on. You can do a simple test....jack up the rear wheels and with the car in park, try to turn one wheel. If the other turns in the opposite direction then you have an open diff, if you cant turn either wheel then you have a power lock.
