Recommendations on an XJ6
Hi,
I own a 1998 XJ8 and normally post in that section. My brother in law, who peruses Craigs List and knows I have a Jaguar asked if I would be interested in this:
"1989 Jaguar XJ40 Solent Blue with the Sportpack option.
Original 16 x 8 Lattice wheels, no curb rash, matching tires with excellent tread
Factory lowered
Stiffer suspension
More responsive steering
Limited slip differential
Very clean paint (Solent Blue) double pinstripe
Nice leather (drivers seat bolster wear, worn stitching)
Walnut burl wood veneer in good condition with boxwood inlay
Clean carpet
All four windows and the sunroof operate properly without lag.
Air conditioning/heat/defrost work properly
There are no worn bushings, leaky shocks, loose ball joints etc.
The car sits level at all four corners and handling is excellent.
The 3.6L straight six engine starts right up, runs quietly and idles smoothly. .
The transmission shifts are very smooth with no hesitation between gear changes upshifting or downshifting.
All maintenance is up to date. Also I have detailed service records.
Contact me with any questions or to set up a time to see the Jag."
The photos are not very clear so I'll have to take a look at it in person. I can see that the driver's seat is worn but the body and paint look decent in the photos. Would it be worth offering a grand and going up to $1,200 for the thing to have as a slow roll project that doesn't need much. Note: I owned a 1982 XJ6 for 3 years leased new and I like the car a lot. Note: My XJ8 is more or less perfect, like a new car so this would be a change.

but wait there's more!!
the XJ-40 is the first "digital" Jaguar, as opposed to the the previous "analog" Jags.
lots of digitized electrical components which burn out.
then in 1990 Ford assumes control of Jaguar and starts to destroy the heritage using Ford engine blocks which were a disaster and the cars start looking like glorified Ford Taurus.
