Adrian, I recently purchased a 1971 Series I XJ6 and would love some advice on complete dashboard removal. Any thoughts?

I read somewhere that soaking the wood in acetone for 5 minutes will strip the lacquer from it. Then you wash it off under the tap and let it dry. Anyone tried this? 5 minutes should be enough to damage the wood or cause it to swell.

Lacquer thinner will dissolve and remove lacquer, wetting it with water will make the grain fuzz-up like whiskers and completely distort and wrinkle the thin wood. I don't recommend putting water on unfinished wood.
